What is “TINSEL”?
"Tinsel" is a horror short film written and directed by Mikel Ledesma. "Tinsel" is an awesome film with a GREAT twist ending. The story is innovative and will shock, scare and entertain any audience who watches it. To fully understand what "Tinsel" is all about, you’ll have to sit back and enjoy this little film that will effectively scare the hell out of you.
How did you get involved with “TINSEL“?
I was approached by Terri Rush, from Crew Rush, about auditioning. Terri told me that two roles hadn’t been cast for a horror short titled, “Tinsel.” Since I love to act, and have loved horror movies since I was little, I couldn’t wait for the opportunity! Plus, since I was 5 it has been a dream of mine to die on camera and I thought I just might get that opportunity if I were cast in this film. So, I drove to Fort Worth, met with Mikel, and landed the role of “Aaron.” You’ll have to watch if you want to see whether or not my dream of a death on screen comes true!
Tell us about the character your playing.
Aaron is the nice guy. He’s fun loving and somewhat of a pushover. He’s in love with his girlfriend, Aly, who cheats on him regularly, yet he does nothing about it. Forgive, forgive, forget; that’s what he does. He’s a great friend to everyone and just likes to get along. A perfect character for a horror film.
Do you like horror films? If not, how are you preparing yourself for TINSEL?
I love horror films. Horror is my favorite genre of everything. Books, movies, plays, etc. You name it. If it’s scary, I’m in. I’m that guy who rents every unknown, low-budget horror film that Redbox has to offer. I love to be scared.
What is your favorite Horror Film?
I have 3 favorite horror films.
In no particular order:
1) Halloween - Does it get any better? It’s the poster child for slasher films and the quintessential teen horror flick. Excellent cast. Excellent director. Excellent story. It doesn’t get any better.
2) The Exorcist - When it comes to legitimate terror, The Exorcist takes the cake. For one, I’m Catholic, I believe in demonic possession, and two, if The Exorcist doesn’t scare you, something is wrong. There’s a reason this film changed the horror genre for ever. No film has done it better, and I’m not sure any film ever will.
3) Scream - I know it’s overlooked when it comes to “classic” horror films, but Scream, to me, is excellent. When I watched Scream I was 10 years old and all I could think about was how it could actually happen. A couple of high school psychopaths killing off their friends one by one freaked me out. Maybe it’s because it’s not necessarily a “monster” or “ghost” horror film, but more of what could actually read as a true story. Granted, the film franchise was ruined by its corny sequels, but the original, in my opinion, is the best horror film since Halloween.
While you’re not acting, what do you do?
While I’m not acting, I’m looking for more roles! And I wait tables…what struggling actor doesn’t? Brad Pitt worked as the chicken mascot for El Pollo Loco, so I figure if he will do that, I have no problem selling steaks!
If you could work with any TWO stars, who would it be with?
If I could work with any two stars, they would be Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.  My acting coach, Ken Farmer, says that working with great actors forces you to
come up to their level. Tom and Meryl are the best of the best when it comes to film acting, so they’re the obvious choices.
What role in what movie do you wish you could play?
I really like my character, Aaron, but if I had to play another character, I would probably choose Matt. He’s very similar to Aaron. He’s an all-around good guy (except for that minor betrayal he commits in the film), and only wants to look out for his sister. He’s not nearly as much of a pushover, but he and Aaron are best friends so they have a lot in common.
What are you most excited about doing in TINSEL?
Dying! Since I was little I’ve wanted to die on screen! I want a bloody, gory death scene! That’s what I look forward to the most.
What can people expect from Tinsel?
People can expect a great horror film. It’s short, sweet, and to the point. The script is great, the cast is superb and the story is awesome. “Tinsel” is terrifying.

Michael Gardner - Tinsel Killer

What is “TINSEL”?
Is a scary movie that will give you nightmares.

How did you get involved with “TINSEL“?
I auditioned on a rainy Saturday afternoon between shooting two short films on the other side of town. I was just in time to do a cold read audition and I guess “I killed it”. LOL  Mikel was very specific in his direction, and I just played off that. I needed to make a strong choice, so I just gave him the evil eye and the voice he wanted with committed intensity.

Tell us about the character your playing.
I will be portraying the Tinsel Killer. As the name implies, I do a little killin…LOL That’s about all I can disclose, but I will tell ya this….when you watch this movie, I will be in your nightmares for a while like a good horror film killer should. LOL so enjoy! !-)

Do you like horror films? If not, how are you preparing yourself for TINSEL?
Of course I love horror films. Been a huge fan since I first saw Dawn of the Dead. My preparation for Tinsel is of course complete study of the script and the flow of the story. I have been rehearsing my lines and I will “tweak” it until it’s good and evil. LOL Next question sir.
What is your favorite Horror Film?
I would have to say that my all time favorite has to be a classic. It’s a tough choice, but I guess Night of the living Dead was the best bang for my buck in horror flicks. I enjoy the more recent “Shaun of the dead” as well. I is hilarious.

While you’re not acting, what do you do?
You will find me in Church more often after this role but not just for that, I am so thankful. I am so lucky to work with so many great actors on this film. I have a great history with several of them and we have all come all long way in a short time together. This is going the be a great film as the chemistry is there for a memorable shoot.

If you could work with any TWO stars, who would it be with?
One of my goals is to work for Tarantino. I would add Jenn Gotzon to that list. She is the amazing actress that inspired me during the filming of I am Gabriel back in July of 2011.
What role in what movie do you wish you could play?
The lead in feature film with a plot like Bond or Kill Bill. LOL

What are you most excited about doing in TINSEL?
I can’t wait to scare the crap out of some people.

HORROR!

Alisha Revel - Sarah

What is “TINSEL”?

Tinsel is a short film that adds its own twist in the slasher horror genre by taking something joyful like Christmas and making it into a sinister, bloody nightmare.

How did you get involved with “TINSEL“?

I got involved with Tinsel right after I spoke with the director for the first time in October. He told me the idea that he had in his head for the whole film and I knew from that moment that I wanted to be a part of it.

Tell us about the character your playing.

I am playing Sarah. Sarah is the heroine of the movie who is tormented by vicious nightmares of the Tinsel Killer. In the story she has had to learn to face reality, but what happens if her nightmares aren’t just a dream?

Do you like horror films? If not, how are you preparing yourself for TINSEL?

As a child, I was only allowed to watch PBS kids and parent-approved movies. I hated it. When I was thirteen I saw my first scary movie— and it’s been a blood bath ever since. Chainsaws, Machetes, Razor Gloves, oh my! Oh, YES.

What is your favorite Horror Film?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Mm, rip that face off, baby.

While you’re not acting, what do you do?

Read, cook, and hang out with some incredible friends.

If you could work with any TWO stars, who would it be with?

Damn. If I had to base my answer on my huge star crushes it’d be Zac Efron & Shia LaBeouf. And yes, it’d be a porno. BUT, If I had to base it on the actors I admire completely I would say Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts, no doubt. And yes… it’d be a porno(;

What role in what movie do you wish you could play?

The Tinsel Killer. But Sarah has some pretty bad ass dreams I’m excited to act out.

What are you most excited about doing in TINSEL?

Make out with my extremely hot co-star James.

What is “TINSEL”?
A short horror tale of sick-twisted delight!

How did you get involved with “TINSEL“?
I came into a cold-read audition and had to do a kissing scene with the character Sarah. Apparently the director thinks I’d fit the role:)

Tell us about the character your playing.
Dexter- A egotistic, yet firm lover of Sarah. He’s pretty much the cool guy everyone tends to like…

Do you like horror films? If not, how are you preparing yourself for TINSEL? Let me answer your question with another question. Does Freddy Krueger like little boys?

What is your favorite Horror Film?
This is honestly a tough one. “IT” would be my childhood film, honestly our generation of films blow. The only solid movie recent is Insidious, I guarantee it’ll make you check your closet at night.

While you’re not acting, what do you do?
If I’m not in acting class, you’ll surely find me at Pappadeaux where I work. If not there, the gym or even a random city the U.S… like to travel :)

If you could work with any TWO stars, who would it be with?
Easy. The great Leonardo Dicaprio or Natalie Portman.

What role in what movie do you wish you could play?
Noah Calhoun in The Notebook. He get’s the love of his life.

What are you most excited about doing in TINSEL?
Working with such an outgoing and energetic cast/crew, not to mention my role as a boyfriend!

What is “TINSEL”?
A psychological horror film centered around a young girl and her inability to shake the demons that haunt her.

How did you get involved with “TINSEL“?
Through local casting sites and of course Facebook!!

Tell us about the character you’re playing.
Rob is the sarcastic jock type whose ego is so huge (that’s what she said) that he could care less about what people think which leaves him to be the; has-to-make-a-joke-about-everything…guy. But I heard he’s good in bed.

Do you like horror films? If not, how are you preparing yourself for TINSEL?
I adore horror films. The ones that keep you on edge, the ones that make you want to turn all the lights on in your house, the ones that you never see coming.

What is your favorite Horror Film?
I would have to say the “Saw” films. Most would disagree but I find them to be exactly what a horror film needs; you never know what’s next, they make you cringe for the right reasons and the killer doesn’t have some supernatural ability…he’s just going to make you kill yourself.

While you’re not acting, what do you do?
BY NIGHT I’M A SUPERHERO!!! Other than that I spend most of my time working, watching movies, or destroying all my video games.

If you could work with any TWO stars, who would it be with?
That’s a weird question but if I had to pick I guess it would be the Sun or Betelgeuse…oh you meant “movie” stars. In that case I would, without a doubt, want to work with Robert Downey Jr. or Daniel Tosh.

What role in what movie do you wish you could play?
Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Holmes), Jason Borne (Borne Trilogy), any Super Hero (any Superhero movie), the Jigsaw killer (Saw saga), Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible Saga), and Connor MacManus (Boondock Saints)to name a few.

What are you most excited about doing in TINSEL?
Besides the INSANE feeling of this being my first horror film?!? I would have to say seeing the movie come together and the expression it leaves on people’s faces when the movie finally reaches its climax (that’s what she said).

What can people expect from Tinsel?
To be at the edge of their seat drenched in sweat. Period.  “Tinsel” hits the ground running and keeps you guessing from start to finish. But it doesn’t just scare the piss out of you. It’ll lightly hold you, pat your head and make you feel loved, as you laugh and smile while getting to know the characters more and more until it rips all that happy crap right out from under you and shows you what a real horror film is capable of.

Jon Yowell - Tinsel Killer Dad

What is “TINSEL”?
Tinsel is a film about a killer, but in actuality, it is so much more than that. It is a cry for help. I believe the writers and actors involved in the film Tinsel are using the project as a way of coping with real issues they have in life. In researching my role, I found that there was an investigation done and I really am the father of a serial killer. If my hunch is correct, everyone else involved in this project has also been typecast,  and by the end of the production, they will all realize who they really are. Then the healing can begin. I believe it was not luck or fate that brought us to Tinsel, but human, yet almost devine intervention. Thank you Mikel Ledesma for beginning the healing process in all of us.

How did you get involved with “TINSEL“?
I have always cheered for the underdog and one day I heard someone ripping on what a bad person Mikel was, and it intrigued me. When I found out that he was working with the talented Israel Marquez, and also a few of my close acting friends, I told myself I really wanted to be involved in the project. After reading the script and meeting all of the cast and crew, I know I made the right decision to be involved in Tinsel.

Tell us about the character your playing.
I play a typical dad that makes a bad decision one day,  and begins killing his wife and family.

Do you like horror films? If not, how are you preparing yourself for TINSEL?
I love horror films and I believe that everyone likes to be scared.

What is your favorite Horror Film?
I have several, but The Shining may be my favorite of all. Any horror film where I feel like the evil is chasing or coming after me goes into the favorite column.

While you’re not acting, what do you do?
When not acting, I work at one of the biggest banks in the world—-(which is similar to acting where everyone thinks you are rich because you work there…lol. I get paid by the hour like everyone else.) I do a lot of volunteer work in my community of DFW, for instance, I have just begun sponsoring a few young boxers, bjj fighters, and soccer players to help them to compete in upcoming contests, I produce films, I sing, I enjoy and compete in several sports, I play Modern Warfare on Xbox, and the list goes on and on. I try to stay busy.

If you could work with any TWO stars, who would it be with?
I would like to someday work with Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins.

What role in what movie do you wish you could play?
Ideally, I would like to play a superhero in Xmen, Batman, Superman, or any other comic book. People who watch movies remember the really bad guys and the really good guys.

What are you most excited about doing in TINSEL?
I am most excited about seeing it completed. I know Tinsel will be huge. I know the talent is there. I know the script is good. I believe this is going to be one of those films that is watched and then watched again and again.

What can people expect from Tinsel?
From Tinsel, people can expect………….the unexpected!
